Pokemon Rumble, Defend Your Castle, and Pop were a lot of fun.

Mega Man 9 and 10 were great too, but you can get those elsewhere now.

Uno had a great online multiplayer component, but I think Wii online servers were shut down. So meh.

My Pokemon Ranch was a fun little side game with Pokemon Diamond/Pearl/Platinum, but it's kind of pointless without those.

I played a few others, but those were the standouts that I remember really well.

Interesting note about "great games you wont miss if you don't download tier"

is that each game is a great multiplayer experience if you have someone in your house who can play with you. There will be hundred of dr. marios and tetrises but the wiiware versions are amazing start up and play for multiple people, and wii remotes are super cheap.

Lots of games never made it to Wii U VC. Including ALL Genesis and Master System and Neo Geo games, although NG games have made it to the Switch.

Why? Mother...I bought a Wii, second-hand, and it was going to be a primary VC machine so I didn't necessarily need to buy a Wii U or a Switch. Now I either need to buy all the VC games or just buy a Wii U later? Ugh, fuck you Nintendo. I can't believe people actually think they're an admirable business company.

Same thing is pretty much happening on PS4 though so the dream of moving forward with all your old games digitally is dead.

Well no you can still play them for no extra fee on Wii U if you do a system transfer

The upcharge is only if you want to add Wii U VC functionality (ability to play on the Gamepad, basically)

I purchased a used Wii a few months ago primarily to buy games from its Virtual Console.

So I have like six months to purchase ALL the games I want from it... I know I was going to get Paper Mario as well as Mega Man 9 and 10... oh, yeah, I'd better get Secret of Mana, as well! Thanks to those who created lists of "must have" games... I will certainly consider those, as well.

the wii is a great device that can play and store literally every single game, fanmade and other from nes-n64. You can download those collections in a matter of minutes (although the entire gbc/gba is a bit difficult to track down)

Nintendo might be a scumbag when it comes to releasing old games, but they're great at releasing systems that let you do the "releasing" yourself

Don't forget to get Castlevania: Rondo of Blood on Wii VC. This is the only US release of the game widely regarded as the best Classicvania, outside of Dracula X Chronicles on PSP/Vita where it has to be unlocked.
