The UPS driver was cornered with only a belt to defend himself against four attacking pit bulls. He'd driven up the 75-foot driveway of a South Hill property to deliver a package Wednesday and was met by the dogs, who backed him against a trailer on the gated property. The driver was able to call 911 about 11 a.m. and ask for help. When Orting firefighters arrived, a relative of the dogs' owner allegedly refused to unlock the gate at the end of the driveway "so the fire department rammed the driveway gate, drove to the victim and pulled him into their vehicle," according to the Pierce County Sheriff's Department. The driver was taken to the hospital and treated for multiple bite wounds, punctures and lacerations to his hands, arms and legs. Animal control officers recovered his boots, which were pulled off by the dogs, and his belt, which the driver tried to use to beat the pit bulls off. The pit bulls will remain quarantined at the Tacoma-Pierce County Humane Society for 10 days. "Because of the severity of what was stated, the dogs were impounded," said Brian Boman, an animal control supervisor. It's unclear what will happen to the dogs.
