Do you think cops ever really turn their police lights on to get through a light or around traffic or just to get somewhere faster in a non emergency?

I had a friend of mine tell me himself that he does so I'm assuming at least some do.

Absolutely. I've seen cops turn their lights on for two seconds just to turn them off as soon as they're across.

I'm sure it's happened. Probably happens a lot.

But I mean it's pretty uncommon for an officer to just be "out on patrol" or looking for speeders or whatever. They usually have calls they're answering. Even for stuff that technically would count as nonemergrncy, I wouldn't be upset at a cop who did this to respond faster.

I live near a police station and sometimes they do to cross busier intersections quicker where the crosslight doesn't turn green for like 5 minutes both ways.

It could also be that they are headed to a suspect's place and don't want to tip him off with lights and sounds.

Could be. It just looked to me like they were using their lights to run a red light though.

First off I'm sure it happens but I'd bet it's not very often.

This could be a multitude of things, burglary in progress you don't roll up lights and siren as you don't want the to know you're there. But it's still an urgent call that you're trying to get to quickly.

They're might be a code 2 call. Urgent but no lights/siren. A long light or line might justify quick use. It's not always what it looks like.
