Complete with ugly, blocky menus and lines everywhere when the original UI design was perfectly fine? This design is especially egregious for the PS4 version. Are they gonna just shovel all these mobile ports onto it instead of the originals? This is what bugs me about the entire series as a whole. There's no consistency in appearance. First, you've got FFI and FFII, which can be played on GBA with 16-bit graphics. Then FFIII has a full 3D DS remake. Then you go back graphically to 16-bit with FFIV Advance, FFV Advance, and FFVI Advance. Or if you don't want to use the GBA re-releases, there's the 20th Anniversary editions of FFI, FFII, FFIII, and FFIV, all released on PSP and later on other platforms. You still get an inconsistent change of appearance if you use the more recent smartphone versions of FFV and FFVI to continue with. If someone new were to try playing the series in order starting from the first game, the graphical changes would be all over the place. This is why I'm hoping the anniversary collection is ports of the original NES/Famicom, Super NES/Super Famicom, and PlayStation versions, so graphically, there's some consistency. The pixels gave the original a kind of grungy appearance that fit well with the medieval world. I wish developers took stuff like that into account for remasters. When you improve the resolution, that means the textures matter more, and if you just make them smooth then they look less convincing. Like that rug under Baku. It looks more like a real rug in the old version. And the moogle in the menu looked soft and fuzzy before. Now it looks like hard plastic. Maybe playing the full game would win me over. I am kinda curious to try it now. The new formatting for the menus looks fine to me. I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed this! It's not surprising that analog movement would be unrefined since the game wasn't even made with that in mind in the first place.
