Oh no, I have to type a few numbers into the system once to play with a friend. No different from adding a username or whatever. You just do it once and forget it anyway

Because, instead of a username lookup, we have to vomit out a hexcode.
That's why. You can't really find friends, you have to already have them.

I thought this was going to be about why people always point it out in a user's sig when they say something that person disagrees with

if you don't already have them, them they're strangers

you aren't supposed to talk to them anyway, iirc

they might try to touch you on the penis

I don't get why people bitch about Friend Codes when nobody had a problem with ICQ.

The Nintendo Faithful, over thirty-something years, are already fully aware of this.

We put our quarters into Donkey Kong back in nineteen eighty-one. Stop treating us like we're still six years old. Please!

All this and more.

Nintendo doesn't let you have an identity.

"Hey what's your gametag"
"Do As I Sway"
"What's your friend code?"
"...no fucking idea"

Because on xbox and ps4 you can play a session with a person once, chat with them, and add them on the fly. With nintendo, you play with a bunch of no names that you can't add unless you know how to contact them and get their friend code.

Why would you even want to do this though? If you just met them in an online session they aren't your friend

On the Wii U you add people using their NNID and can send friend requests to people you met in games using a "Player History" list. Switch went back to Friend Codes for some reason, but you can still add people you've played with recently.

Friend Codes were only really a problem on Wii and DS, where you needed a code for each game.

Nah. I just traded Pokemon a few times with a friend, who's code took me about 5 seconds to add.

Why would I play online games on a non-Nintendo, you can't trade Pokemon that way
