The main thing I've taken away from my historical studies is to never underestimate the depths of human greed, stupidity, and short-sightedness.

So that's a hard 'yes.'

It's really startling how out of touch a lot of people became simply because Obama was elected.

Nothing has changed. It's just getting more air time.

I like how you want to blame the right but can't square that due to Obama being in power.

So even after 8 years of democratic rule, it's stil the right's fault somehow.

The fuck are you babbling about? I didn't say anything about it being anyones fault, but I can't see how you took me saying "Obama was in charge and people didn't notice" as me saying that was the rights fault of all things.

Yes. A thousand times yes. This stuff has always been boiling under the surface, and to think it could be completely or even mostly phased out over the span of a few measly generations (compared to the thousands of years its been ingrained in humanity) is just pure naivety. The whole 'It's Current Year, why does [ ] still exist' mindset reeks of ignorance and borderline-immaturity to me.

It's certainly escalated things, but there still would have been a strong pushback even if he'd have lost. The left has uncharacteristically pushed hard and fast with its social agenda over the last 5-10 years. In that time, for instance, culturally we've gone from being vaguely aware of transgendered issues to hearing wild rumors (or possibly not-rumors) of being fined or jailed if you fail to label someone the correct gender pronoun.

Before you make assumptions, I am in support of the majority of cultural reforms that are taking place. The problem is that such reform needs to pace itself in order to give the ignorant in society the chance to catch up. Ignorance and hate are two very different things, and the true size of the latter crowd is much smaller than most people realize. But when cultural reform pushes too hard and fast like it's been doing lately (and in many cases far overreaching, with almost darkly comical self-defeating results), the ignorant can very quickly feel attacked and thus allow themselves to find refuge in the 'hate' crowd, regardless of whether or not they become truly hateful. It's unfortunately those who strive for positive change the most that can do the most damage in setting their movement back - 'road to Hell paved with good intentions' and all that.

Wrong way round. The majority of America believes race relations are WORSE following Obama's terms.

You're contarian if you deny that.

Hey Unfair. The sky is blue.

Sky is actually violet. We just perceive it as blue.

I see, so you're saying that they feel as if their viewpoints are under attack and so they become more outspoken as a defense mechanism.
