Current Events > came up with a plot to a book, what do you think.

kid has abusive father. when he's a teen during one really bad night, he ends up killing his father while defending his mother. turns out, his father owed a lot a money to a local crime family. so they wait until he's old enough and has a job / family and come after him for what his father owed. stuff ensues. is that interesting?

i need to make the amount of money make sense. enough that would cause a family to wait 20 years before asking for it. but enough that it's logical a normal person would have it.

i mean that's all established really early but im sure CE's resident novelists will do a good job with it

Not necessarily. That would be one way to do it, but on the other hand maybe the protag comes to find out the dad's ties to the underworld were deeper than he thought. Maybe it's personal. Or on another hand, maybe they waited because they couldn't find the protag. Maybe there's a whole blood trail that he follows backward after being discovered that explains how they found him. Or any number of things.

That's the kind of stuff that would make it cool to me, at least.

yeah. I like the "it being personal" angle. like, to them it's the principle. ive been mulling this over for awhile (well beyond the initial premise). hmm

That plot was kind used in Daredevil It's Fisk's background, except he goes after the family rather than them going after him

lol, at the very end after he did the "white collar action hero" thing. Or he kills pretty much all of them so they surrender at the very end and he becomes the new mob boss. Then he has them change their line of business to being badass pinstripe-clad door-to-door office supply salesmen who also spread the word about environmentalism.
