2.8 had one (short) original game, one remake which needed re-working to use a single screen among other things, and one movie that needed a dub job.

1.5 and 2.5 were re-re-releases of finished material. It's natural it was cheaper as it was pure cash grab.

DDD is cancer.


I found 2.8 very cheap, though. No clue why you feel you need to pay that price for it.

DDD is overhyped. Flowmotion is fucking awful, balance is basically non-existent, you're forced to switch between characters, Dream Eaters are nothing more than attention whores and the fact abilities are tied to them is idiotic, most of the Reality Shifts are worthless and just there so they can tout some "brand new mechanic!!", and other annoying things that all stack up.
There's a good game somewhere in there, but yeah. I'm not sure I'll ever find myself replaying the game, and it certainly doesn't leave me hopeful Osaka will do anything good with KH3.

Flowmotion isn't awful, it just isn't all that good either. It destroys the vertical progression of the game if you can just fly anywhere from the moment you start the game, but in combat it can be very interesting. I view Aqua's movement in 0.2 as a sort of evolution of Flowmotion where it makes it less over the top and without those insane i-frame windows.

Otherwise, yeah. The spirits are trash that require way too fucking much upkeep. The timer element is awful. Hey Square. Hey Square Enix... STOP PUTTING FUCKING TIMED ELEMENTS IN YOUR RPGS! and reality shift are a "cool looking" timer waster more than anything.

The biggest issue with DDD is where it takes the story through. Because KH has always had a convoluted story and all, but DDD takes it to the next fucking level and it sort of pretends that it all makes perfect sense with what was happening in Kingdom Hearts 2, but it's obvious that Nomura is making it up as he goes along and then tries to fit it into a neat little box.

DDD is fun but has really bad pacing since it drops some of the most important plot pieces in the entire series on you in the final two or so hours. It's explained pretty well but it all comes at you rapid fire so it's just kind of awkward.

Also every world feels dead and empty after you've finished it which kind of sucks.

DDD was the best of the nintendo line, but that isn't saying a lot. On the plus side it has an actual story structure akin to the main games instead of missions, and it's original worlds, not rehashes. It mostly controls well and sets up KH3 well enough.

On the downside, the story is even beyond my level of tolerance for convolutedness. The dual protagonist thing was annoying enough in BBS (fill the journal 3 times my ass) and now it's on a timer forcing switching when you don't want to. Then it threw a ton of touch screen game mechanics at us just because they could and it breaks combat flow. And of course that applies to the virtual pets, er, pokemon, er, Dream eaters all requiring leveling through long grinding and / or dopey mini games.

All of this was based on my 3DS version. I haven't gotten to this on PS4 yet.

People complain about DDD's timer but everyone loves Majora's Mask, which I never really understood. Esp since you can prolong DDD's timer almost indefinitely with items and play however you want.

I'd prob rank DDD as mid-tier. The best are KH1, KH2, and BbS, while the worst are coded, Days, and X. DDD is just smack-dab in the middle. COM is prob in the middle as well... Well, Re:CoM anyway.

Where are you finding it for $60? Even squeenix store has the limited edition for only $50. And the regular edition is $35 on amazon.

Someone was selling a bundle of 2.8 games on Ebay a few months ago for $20 each. It was the limited edition copies.

I just got the remix games for $30 at Gamestop too.

Yeah DDD took a convoluted story and made it to a shit show. At this point, I forgot who's inside who now. Flowmotion was great as a way to travel, but terrible execution when it came to combat. Nightmares could've been good, if it were not for the fact that abilities and attacks were tied to some of them was also stupid. It's also stupid how you have to pet them in order to get them to be a different personality which would unlock certain paths to get more ablities, but a lot of times it's not guaranteed.

As someone who's playing DDD for the first time right now in 2.8, I'd definitely put it in the bottom tier. Flowmotion sucks, the drop system is stupid, and unlocking abilities through the dream eater system is annoying.

Also the story so far is blah, it's corniness at its worse with the speeches at the end of each world, which I know isn't new for the series but it's really bad here. And I know There's a time travel element, which is typically where stories always go off the rails.

It's funny listening to Haley struggle to do his Sora voice now though.

Does that actually matter, though? You're still being forced to accomplish a bunch of stuff before a timer hits zero, and Majora's Mask always felt way more restrictive to me.
