IMO notifications are pretty much the most important software feature of a smartphone.

for those of you guys that don't use iPhones, they have always used the little badge icons to indicate if there's a notification for an app:

unfortunately these don't really give you a good overview of what's up on your phone, so a while ago Apple copied the notification shade from Android and made their own version that looks like this:

And that was pretty cool, you can see all your notifications at once, separated by category. Then iOS 10 rolls around and they changed the shade to look like this:

https://tinyurl.com/y8q9ptom

So you can't see the notifications sorted by group anymore, it's all just a giant wall of notifications, and every single action on your phone gets you an individual notification rather than grouping similar ones together (if you get 20 messages in a group chat it gives you 20 notifications rather than 1 that says you have 20 group messages).

to take it to an even dumber level, iOS 11 does this:

So now to top off the lack of organization in 10 the notifications are not grouped together & the shade is bascially just the lock screen, with your music widget and clock and shit taking up all the space so you have to scroll.

who thought this was a good idea? it's been driving me nuts

That seems like a good idea. That way I wouldn't have to open a bunch of different apps to see individual messages.

the thing is that most apps only show you a portion of the message you receive and they're in ascending order, so it's not really intuitive
