It's not commonly transmitted through sex (it can be, though). Mostly Hep C comes from IV drug use, blood transfusions from the 80's, and prison tattoos.

The old treatment was brutal and didn't always work. The new treatment, Harvoni, is incredible but expensive.

It causes liver failure at advanced stages if untreated. I'd say that's potentially pretty serious.

It's associated with a ton of autoimmune and vasculitic diseases. It often causes a condition called cryoglobulinemia, which gives you bad kidney disease.
