I mean... It takes about 10 minutes at the most to get from the Great Plateau to Kakariko Village, but you've spent 10 hours in that piece alone. The pace of the game depends entirely on how you play.

i went a very long way and got lost since i dont have a populated map yet, it's all dark.

took me a while to do the tutorial part where you have to find the 4 shrines. a large part of it was that i was playing it on a long flight while i was exhausted, but i also did some exploring since it seems like that is the point of the game.

For one you can fast travel. Two, there are plenty of hidden islands all over the ocean.

BotW has fast travel, and has a ton of secrets hidden in the overworld.

No, that's the entire game.

It really is. Played it for like 50 hours and the majority of the time is spent roaming from one place to another, doing shrines that are as about straightforward as it gets, and finding korok seeds. There's just too little substance in the game, and no real payoff for exploring. Honestly, it's one of the worst Zelda games.

Once you realize this isn't your grandpa's Zelda.

Seriously though, prolly around your first divine beast. As long as you embrace that the game is open world and meant to be played like an open world instead of linear dungeon A - Town - Dungeon B - Repeat, you'll enjoy it.

I'd say it's my 2nd or 3rd favorite 3D Zelda, after Majoras Mask and WW. It's an amazing stand alone.

So far it just feels like a lot of dull exploration with no regards to pacing or structure, supplemented by open world busywork as a main gameplay component (collecting weapons, food, etc).

I figure that is what Nintendo was going for, but to me that doesn't make the game interesting at all, and it's entirely contingent on how much mileage you get out of just wandering around to collect things.

The wandering around isn't even that fun at the moment because it feels gated artificially by a lot of things. The stamina bar so far makes climbing very unpleasant (because if you want to climb anything remotely larger than a pebble you need to find creative ways to make your guy stand on some tiny ledge to recover stamina or else you won't make it to the top), having to cook items to withstand the cold is just added labor, etc.

This all would be fine if the main focus was on compelling dungeons or missions or narrative or whatever but so far I have seen nearly none of it. I hope I will change my tune when I see a divine beast or my first temple but right now it's one of the dullest games I've played in a while.
