I think context matters. The guy in the OP sounds like a real asshole. But then you have other professions where that kind of screaming is just treated as par for the course and no one takes it personally. The restaurant trade, for instance.
I do think sometimes a good bollocking is required, but not if it's the default mode for a person. --- CE's Resident Scotsman. http://i.imgur.com/ILz2ZbV.jpg ... Copied to Clipboard!

I mean technically it's ok. Bosses that scream habitually at their workers are shitty and shouldn't be bosses though. Rarely it's warranted

There are definitely a few situations in which I would think it's acceptable for an employer to yell at an employee, like gross negligence or incompetence that seriously injures the business deal or something. I'd say even then just do what needs to be done (termination, write-up, suspension) and be done with it. I think most people would be more understanding of what he did wrong if he was dealt with in a civil manner. --- {}\\{}(o){}\\//{}//=\\{})){}(< \\//{}{{-{}//\\{} {}xxxxxxxx{};;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;> ... He didn't force you to work there. You can quit if you don't like it. He's the boss after all. He's running his business the way he sees fit. Putting up with it doesn't give you the right to complain. It means you accept his terms. "Abuse" can be anything nowadays for the entitled generation.

no, its never appropriate for a boss to yell at an employee. I've had some things that I consider worse than that though. Being overworked was one of them. In the span of 2 months I worked sixteen 12 hour shifts in a row, followed by twelve 16 hour shifts in a row after a couple days break with a security company.
Very much against the law. But the jokes on that guy, I took that time to watch every single movie at Jumbo Video, plus save up for a new playstation 3 when it just came out on the market. Benefits of working out in the boonies, where no one will bother robbing or committing a crime. ... Copied to Clipboard!

It's not ok and more importantly it's a good measure of how ineffectual they are as a boss.

if you can't run your business or department without resorting to shouting and insulting, then you shouldn't be running a business or department.
