I got spanked like 2-3 times when I was a kid. When I mouthed off once my mom gave me a swat across the mouth.

My dad has a big temper, but he never hit me or any of my brothers/sisters (as far as I know)

I told my parents once if they hit me im telling the cops you beat and molest me on a normal basis. I think it worked but I was grounded plenty.

My older brother would get into physical fights with them, sounds bad but they really seemed both at fault. During an argument that seemed to be "going there" i yelled that they can ground and take away my shit but im not fighting and if you hit me ill take the hit but tell the cops you beat and molest me all the time. They seemed to take it as "fair enough". Probably tired of fighting with my bro.

I think that's kind of a retroactive consideration. If anything, I think we sexualise too many things unnecessarily and that's more of a recent phenomenon. Back in the 90s a grown man or teacher could hug a friend's child to no great comment, but not anymore.

I just figured a butt spanking was because it's the only part of your body that isn't potentially going to get seriously harmed that way.

if anything the only time i was actually punished was a 2 day restriction from sega genesis but i was never punished by hitting except for one time by another uncle and aunt when i did something that wasn't allowed (cant remember what it was).

my dad didn't believe in that, though i never caused any trouble growing up for them.

Yes, spanked by my dad when I was young. As I grew up there were no issues because I had a healthy fear for his authority. Fear as in "I know this is bad and I shouldn't do it unless I want to get in trouble". I was never hit or abused outside of spanking.

A couple times by my dad, once from my step dad and I got punched in the face once by my cousin.

I was spanked once, and hit maybe once or twice. The last time he did it was in the car, and he was directly trying to hit me hard, in the face.

I know, privation fallacy and all that. But I don't really think getting a spank did anything harmful in the bigger picture. Getting systematically bullied in middle school by seniors and emotionally bullied by "friends", that was the really messed up thing.

have to agree with this. I've gotten the occasional smack for acting out as a kid, but the way other kids treated me had a way bigger impact on my psychology for sure. I don't resent my parents at all but I hated some of those kids and still don't want anything to do with them. I don't think I'll lay a hand on my kids if/when I ever have them tho

So by that metric having one beer once a week makes you an alcoholic? It's amazing surprising how people like you can go from 0-60 in 2.5 seconds and take everything as black and white. Probably actually worse for the eduction on corporal punishment for children than the actual advocates for corporal punishment. But keep on applying your prejudices to everyone else.
