Current Events > Today at work, a kid handed me some bottlecaps as payment.

He and his dad came up to the register, and the kid wanted to get a gift card or something, which was exactly $10. He had exactly that much on him, but they had a few other things they wanted to get, which the dad offered to pay.

To my surprise, after the gift card was paid for, and the dad was getting ready to pay, the kid reached into his pocket and pulled out a handful of bottlecaps and handed them to me. Since I thought that was kinda neat, I smiled in amusement and was like, "Sorry, we're not in the wasteland. We don't accept bottlecaps as a valid form of currency yet."

And he was so surprised that this random cashier got the reference. He was like, "You play Fallout?! You're my new favorite person."

I ended up asking him if he beat the game, or which faction he sided with. He sided with the Institute.

I thought that was kind of a neat little encounter I had today.

It's nice to see that the new generation is a lot smarter than the CE generation which always picks NCR and Brotherhood like a bunch of idiots.

NCR isn't too bad, but I would've been really worried for that kid if he had sided with the Brotherhood, of all things.

The institute is literally the worst written faction in all of fallout. which is pretty impressive considering the competition it's going up against just in fallout 4

NCR is bad but at least wanted to help everyone they could to unite and institute some form of order and safety.

The institute is basically what the brotherhood was to nonhumans, except to everyone who had ever been on the outside.

Then again given what they did in FO3 with that one android who had his mind wiped and edited to make him think he was human, well. :l

I hate how Fallout 3 and 4 have bottle caps as currency. That was just a west coast thing.

Same thing with the Brotherhood. There's no reason to have them on the east coast. Come up with some new material, Bethesda FFS.

The reasoning behind having them as currency works pretty well. No reason the idea wouldn't spread.

The thing that annoyed me about the different groups was that you didn't have much freedom with them. Honestly, I wanted to join the Institute after the leader died off, but with the idea of changing things from within now that I'd be in charge. That would have been neat, but unfortunately, you're given no choice in what happens next.
