Should avoid it, but it is better than going over the limit.

Actually it's only a ticket if you are going 5mph or more over the speed limit, and you are only speeding if you are exceeding the flow of traffic. For example, if the flow is 72mph there is no way you can get a ticket for that as everybody is going that speed.

In fact, standing out and holding up traffic is usually far more of an offense and it gives people road rage. Balance is key to speed.

i've never paid attention to the speed limit in my life. if you follow the flow of traffic, you will never get a ticket.

being too slow or too fast is dangerous. if everybody is breaking the law, you break it as well. i'll take the ticket over endangering someone else's life

"flow of traffic" is a term speeders use to justify their habits.

imagine trying to rationalize yourself being the most dangerous person on the road

like i said, cops agree with me. have never paid attention to the limit, always drove the speed of traffic. doing it for 17 years, no ticket.

You sound like an extremely dangerous person to be around.

The most dangerous thing to do is to stand out, being slower or faster isn't as big of a deal as you doing something that stands out from the other drivers.

Speed limits only exist for state revenue

This is also true. Most speed limits are very outdated and were put in place back in an era when cars were a lot slower, when tires were primitive and didn't grip that well, and when brakes were also really primitive so the stopping distances sucked.

Most modern cars can easily exceed the speed limits in comfort and it's been this way for decades now. Cars keep getting faster and safer, yet the speed limits have always remained the same.

90% of drivers think that they are above average in driving skill, clearly that means a good amount of drivers don't know how dangerous thier actions actully are. People tailgate on highways close enough that they couldn't react if the driver ahead hit thier breaks.

I don't go above the speed limit unless I am passing someone or to allow another driver to merge easier. I do know to stay in the right hand lane so the "amazing drivers" can pass and I won't be involved when they drive like an idiot.

Just because everyone else is committing a crime, that doesn't mean you should too.

Be the difference.

Tailgaters are assholes and very dangerous.

People going 10 mph over on the highway are not.

This isn't difficult.

Most states specify differences between "relative" and "absolute" speed limits.

Basically absolute would be things like residential zones, school zones, the interstate maximum limit, etc. Even 1 over is ticketable.

Everything else usually falls under relative and the letter of the law specifies that speed can be determined by a reasonable range. So if there is low traffic and good weather conditions, going 5 or 10 over the speed limit can technically be lawful, but it still is up to officer discretion. Obviously you can't go over the posted limits in rush hours or terrible weather. If you were written a ticket, you could theoretically have a lawyer defend this pretty easily.

And according to the DMV, the safest speed to drive is what everyone else is driving. In my city's case, usually 5-10 over on freeways is the "flow of traffic." If you're the one guy driving the limit, you're the actual danger in that scenario.
