These are the people who call you shitlords while being inept at the most simple of things in even the most simple of videogames. This is why you should never take gaming "journalism" seriously

People still care about them?

Youtubers pull in far more viewers these days

People paid to review games are often not the same kind of people who play video games. Since at the end of the day game reviewers are looking for people journalism experience and not necessarily people with video game playing experience.

People used to care about games journalism back in the printed press and early 00's and so on because back then the people involved were in it out of a passion for video games.

Over time as it became more of a big business it started attracting these business and career oriented people who don't quite understand the simple things that most people enjoy, who can't relate to most people.

I'm only speaking of the current situation. But with the internet it's fairly easy to get exposure of new video games and making a decision on whether you want without needing to read an official video game review.

Oh for sure, but keep in mind how this is only a fairly recent development. A lot of the kids these days might not know this, but back in the early 00's we didn't really have all these streams or youtube or any of that social media for watching people play video games, so back then if you wanted to know about video games you had to go to a site like IGN to check their, reviews, images and video clips or GameFAQS and read about it there.

Now a days streamers have pretty much made games journalism irrelevant, but it wasn't always like this. I feel like now a days the only people left in the old games sites are just some salty old timers and career journalists who couldn't make it in a better journalism industry.

These days yeah, it wasn't always this way but now it is. Most big name gaming "journalists" are bottom the barrel and got these positions out of passion for videogames they got them because their hipster friends just handed them these positions to spread their propaganda

That doesn't make any sense, if I'm reading a review about a game from a person whose literal only job is reviewing videogames they had at least be at bare minimum be decent at them otherwise I won't take their reviews seriously
