I think King was going for something horrifying and to be fair, he definitely wrote a very horrifying scene. Absolute insanity lol. The real problem is that it's so out of left-field and the movies have shown that the story is honestly better off without that part.

I mean, it's literally impossible for any visual adaption to show that part so even if they wanted to test it solely for scholarly purposes they couldn't.

They could do a tame version if they wanted. They wouldn't be the first movie with teen sex scenes.

huh....I feel like that was a mistake to make them so old. the theme is supposed to be about IT killing innocent people. he preys on kids cause they are unsuspecting and vulnerable. When your a teenager your not as innocent anymore. it changes the implications. I'm seeing it on monday though. I'll find out if it works or not.

plus this puts them out of my age range. I kinda got excited when I found out it takes place in the 80's as I was born in 81. I can pretend like I'm one of them. but if their teens in the 80's they are older than I was. I would maybe be Georgie....and nobody wants to be Georgie....

Exactly. They could do a mild version of it where they don't explicitly show anything, just heavily imply it.

The reason why it's omitted is because it's gross and adds no value to the overall story.

Incorrect. It's actually very fitting thematically and story wise.

I recall reading something about the symbolism of why it occurs in the book.

Also the fact that it upsets everyone this much means it's good. Transgressive things ftw.

For one, Bev dealing with her sexuality is a big part of the book. For two, IT has such a hold over them because they're children, and as they're trying to leave the sewer, they're thematically trying to leave their childhood behind, so they need to do something that will bring them into adulthood. To a kid(especially one dealing with issues of sexuality), that fits. It's also something to seal their bond as friends.

You didn't land clean so you'll be unfortunately leaving with bronze.

Basically, cocaine + desire to deliver shock value = them kids running a train on bev

You don't have to love somebody to have sex with them. I could easily bone a female friend and still remain friends and not feel ackward about it the next day

If he was going for shock value, why write it in such a tame way? It isn't particularly explicit.

All other teen sex scenes have them hidden and covered which of course can't happen with a gangbang in a sewer.

Sewers are dark and shadowy places.
