It's important to point out that, after you reach level 20, Bright Engrams will drop whenever you gain a new experience level (like Motes of Light did in the original game), meaning that you can earn an unlimited number during the course of normal gameplay. You also can't buy Bright Engrams before level 20, so there's no way to acquire this stuff before it starts dropping anyway.

The actual gameplay impact of these mods remains to be seen, but unless it turns out to be huge, I wouldn't personally call 'pay-to-win'.

yea im the same way, i was an xbox player until i bought the ps4 slim last winter and now ive been mostly playing on the ps4. my 2013 xbox one sounds like a jet engine taking off when i play certain games so ive begrudgingly been playing the playstation the most

I can't say i'm surprised companies would use tactics that aren't good for consumers to make more money. This isn't some thing that's only a problem with the game industry.

I just don't let it bother me. I'll still play games with microtransactions, but I will also avoid games that go overboard with it. If the game is still fun even with p2w elements, the p2w elements might not actually be that game changing.

Well most other places I talk about games people are mostly sensible and see bad microtransactions for what they are so I kinda forget that there are people who don't really care

They're items purchasable with real money that provide direct gameplay related power increases. Admittedly they are probably not large power increases but that's still basically the definition of pay 2 win

You are the one with a child's understanding of the industry. Game companies used to fire people after a game completed, because there is no reason to keep people who aren't contributing towards the company. DLC and microtransactions help keep people working in the game industry have more stable employment, but the game industry as a whole isn't a great place to look for stable work. Not to mention the amount of OT you'll likely need to put in to meet deadlines.

While microtransactions themselves don't save everyone's job. They do help save some jobs since nowadays you can expect most games to be updated for a year or two after release and companies need developers for that and the company needs money from somewhere.

I never said that all the microtransaction money only goes to developers nor would I be surprised if publishers weren't taking a big cut of it.

i dont like microtransactions either and ive never payed for one in my entire life (and never will), but obviously other people are paying for them and they're here to stay, so you either have to deal with it or stop playing video games and find a new activity. personally i dont care enough about gaming to stop playing to make some kind of a moral statement that will fall on deaf ears.

the way i look at it, this is the future of many industries and if this is providing an additional revenue stream that allows companies to stay afloat and make more games, i can just deal with it unless the microtransactions are especially egregious (like the new shadow of war game).

Just because you can also farm them somehow ingame doesn't prevent purchasing them counting as pay2win

I'd see this as a major problem if you could pay to get those before they start dropping at a certain level...but you don't. You play up to level 20 like everyone else and then you can waste your mother's hard-earned money to get something other players can get normally.
