I love 3 but I have no idea who any of the side characters are and I don't feel like reading walls of text to find out. I don't have a PC or a working 360 so 1 and 2 are off the table and even then the graphics of 1 and parts of 2 are pretty painful by today's standards.
I'm honestly surprised that they didn't do that before the release of 3 --- ... Copied to Clipboard!

Honest to god, the books are way more important if you're looking for context and introduction for characters.There are only two characters and two events that I can think of from the second game that have any importance. While three may as well be the next book in the series.
