Nothing that small should be able to play Mario Kart 8 in 1080p 60fps, or freaking Skyrim with better-than-last-gen performance and visuals.

Mario and Rabbids is freaking amazing looking, especially on a TV.

I kinda expected games to have no AA, run at 720p (like most last gen titles) and generally look, at very best, like early Xbox 360 titles. Instead, almost all games run at 1080p and a surprising majority run at 60fps, with substantially better visuals than last-gen.

I get that mobile tech has come a long way, but geez. I remember thinking Mario 64 DS was state of the art handheld graphics, so I guess it's all relative.

Hell, I thought Konami Krazy Racers, a GBA launch title, was blazingly new graphics territory for handheld.

That's what really blows my mind. In five years, we would be approaching PS4/X1 performance on handhelds. There's got to be a point when the diminishing returns of future console visuals results in handheld games looking comparable to their console counterparts.

I'm not blown away with the Switch's performance, but that doesn't stop me from enjoying my Switch. I wish some games did run better in tablet mode than they do, though, but oh well.

Everything else, though? It's a solid 60 frames per second. Just glancing over the North American eShop, there are 71 games available for Nintendo Switch. Some of them are simply emulated classics, of course, but if look through the list you will find that of the 71, more than 80 per cent of the games on the list run at 60 frames per second. While that includes some pretty basic titles it's still a superb turnout - and it's one of the key reasons why we're loving Nintendo's new console hybrid.
