For the anime, when Light loses the book, I know he loses his memory but why did his morals change?

He objected to let a plan go through where they let Kira kill someone to confirm that was the person. He said that was immoral , light pre-losing book would have went with it.

didn't watch the show or know anything about death note, but maybe having such ultimate power over life and death puts a strain on your morals

Huh, I actually brought this up just very recently in the other Death Note topic. Except my point was the exact opposite of yours, since what you posited is very easily explainable (power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely)

Light freaked out the first time he realised what it did. If he was just told about it, he probably wouldn't have thought it was good, but he started off the series thinking the book was a joke and then it was too late by the time he figured out it was legit.

When he first realized that the Death Note can actually kill people, he was briefly mortified until he tried to justify to himself that he did nothing wrong. Before that, he believed in the sanctity of life and killing is wrong and all that stuff.

When he gave up the book, he went back to that mindset.

because using the Death Note apparently "changes the heart" of the user.

after Light loses his memory of it, all of the killings that he was behind were no longer weighing on his psyche

classic "power tends to corrupt" thing.
when his power and memory was taken, he revert to his old self when he havent been corrupted thing.
also this was the clear point that light no longer the good guy. anyone who think light did nothing wrong is just deluding themselves.
