Last week I missed my layover flight in Madrid and had to spend the night in a hotel. The airline messed up and didn't give us our boarding pass for the connecting flight when we got our passes for the first flight (the rep we talked to later said that should have never happened), they told us that we would have to go to the ticket counter at Madrid to get our boarding pass. Problem is, Madrid airport is huge and confusing, and no one speaks english, so we got lost and missed our flight.

The hotel was great though so I didn't mind.

Yeah but you spend less time on your planned destination.

Well that was coming home, so we were in no rush. Except one person in the group was freaking out pretty bad, for no reason too because no one in the group of 6 had to be home on time, there was no problems waiting an extra day. So that made the time much worse.

But I never had an issue with how much time layovers were. Sometimes I like longer ones so I can have food from a different place or look at the souvenirs they have.

One time I missed my connecting flight in Paris because they had only one customs agent on duty and like 200 people in line, so I got put up in a hotel with all you can eat french food. It was on the way back, so I didn't mind too much
