That's also what the Snopes article says--that it was done at the request of the protesters. Keep in mind that when the "CNN faked this dramatic rescue" idea arose (what this topic is based on), it also started with some loser slightly editing a CNN video and narrating over it, telling you what to believe instead of what was actually happening.
