At a charity, it's a grant writing position which is a few hours a week. I have grant writing training and they were really impressed with my work so they took me on.

I'm really glad I got this position because I really needed a win.

The charity has around 3-4 projects that they are trying to get funding for right now. They already have funders in mind (most foundations but I am going to try to convince them to apply for government funding as well if they're not doing that). Basically what I do is write concept notes, which are 2-3 page documents explaining the concept and organization. If the funder likes the concept note, then they invite us to draft a complete project proposal which is a 10-20 page document that details everything about the project, from the budget to the timeline and outcomes of the project.

It's a fairly large charity so getting funding should be pretty easy, I think. If I do well they might even hire me, or at least pay me something, but that's not a guarantee.

Good on you man

I volunteer as a teaching artist and do dance classes for children in shelters

We get them on stages all over NYC to perform

People take volunteering for granted it's one of the most enriching experiences ever

That sounds awesome.

I volunteer(ed) with a youth organization... which lead me toward my career path... which lead me toward jobs, etc.

I was working full time but was 'bored' so I figured Id volunteer. Because of that; my career shifted in that direction.
