Assuming, of course, that you own a gun for self-defense. My 7th grade history teacher's brother is the only person I have even heard of who has successfully used a gun in justifiable self-defense.

Yes, kept my girlfriend and myself safe from a gang once with one if my pistols, thankfully I did not have to shoot and just seeing it changed their mind about attacking us.

The area we were in was not a great one so I came prepared, I am glad nothing happened but they probably intended to rob me and rape her from the attitude they had.

Where, exactly, do you live? I'm assuming a big-ish city.

@Garioshi

She lives in a good part of the city but we had to walk through a rough part of town as a street and walkway was closed off. I did not own or have a car nor my driver's license yet so we were on foot.

She also did not have any guns at the time only me, but I was not going to be risking either of us. We were going back to her place after a party/event and it was 1 am so it was not exactly a good time to be in certain areas.

Real talk, I love animals, and that's exactly why I did it because it was going to suffer if I didn't. It wasn't really a threat at all though. I would never shoot a regular opossum, I think they're kinda cute.

Yes she did, "glad to be alive sex", it was very enjoyable and that also was the night she became firmly "pro gun" as she was not sure if a gun was needed to keep safe before that.

I am just glad I did not have to kill anyone, and very glad she was safe cause there was a moment one of them seemed like he was going to test my willingness to shoot.

One huge reason I hate gun control advacates is because if there was strict gun control my situation would have ended in robbery, her raped, and possibly both of us dead.

One person I told what happened said "well if you did not go to the party/event you would not have been in that situation", and the "you don't know for sure what that gang would do to you if you just gave them your valubles and did not resist at all". The jackass even has the audacity to say "if you did have to shoot I bet you would feel guilty at taking a life of a person who might not have been all that bad".

The asshole felt that me killing one or more of them would have been more wrong then them raping her. Took all my restraint to not beat the crap out of him for the bs he said.

How sure were you that it had rabies? Virginia opossum, like other marsupials, is at a very low risk for rabies due to its low body temperature.

My cousin has drawn on someone who pulled a knife on him before and gotten him to stand down. Done that twice, actually.

Never actually shot a gun before, as far as I know.

lol that is like telling a rape victim they shouldn't be out at night, and then telling a rape victim if they didn't resist then it wouldn't have been as bad as if they did.

@yemmy

The guy was not just anti gun but also the worst kind of person who has never been in a bad situation or had a loved one threatened or in danger. He is the kind of person who would probably forgive a nutcase for killing a family member, or say he would "pray for them".

He was an acquaintance of my girlfriend's brother in law but so many people stopped talking to him after those comments.
