Super Mario World - Remember when games were packed in the console? Holy crap, when you thought SMB3 couldn't get anymore perfect among a sea of crap, out comes this game.

There was just so much to do, and so many secrets to find. Has not aged at all, and aside from the Shovel Knight designer's Mario Maker levels, I haven't seen a Mario Maker level come close to the quality of these original maps.

Its all so streamlined design, feels natural. I must have 96*'d this game at least 5 times and speed ran several times.

Super Mario Kart - The best game on XBand, which let you play people online via dial up. This is how I discovered all the glitches and shortcut in this broken game. Many sleepless nights of passing the controller when you lost in battle mode. I'd prefer a newer mario kart game though as it doesn't have much gameplay other than jumping shortcuts and item management. 150cc gold'd it many times. Has aged a little.

Zelda Link to the Past - As heard in Scott Pilgrim, this is the game where someone said "hey, you know what sex feels like? Make that feeling into a game". and it was created. Fixes everything wrong with the original zelda. Its so good even modders have trouble designing/modding something more awesome in terms of its level design. Post if you were part of the 000 club!! :D Has not aged at all

F-Zero More of a fancy tech demo, its barebones but it gets it right with nice control and smooth play. Has aged a bit, and you'll probably just go back to Mario Kart unless you just want a faster paced game.

Super Metroid You don't even have to jump in the first few seconds, just master moving left and right. A little tiny ledge to practice jumping. A screen that tells the story of what happened. A boss fight to practice combat. A door you can't open until you are forced to come back and you instinctively try out your new thing you got. Putting you in a room with a new item, the only way getting out is to use said item.

The game does an absolute steller job of teaching you game mechanics without you knowing it. Another game that hasn't aged at all, and I would say it can't get any better, but some of the fan creations like Revised tweak it beyond perfection :)

Street Fighter 2 So when the SNES came out, this is the game you had to get. All you wanted for xmas was Super Mario World and Street Fighter. nothing else. Hours and hours of mindless play. The frustrating M Bison perfect run in order to get the best ending.

Turbo makes it even better. Has aged just a little compared to more complex and deep mechanics of future titles, but still fun to go back to for a few players.

Super Punch Out - My 4 year old beat Glass Joe last week. I'm so proud of her!
Anyways this is a game I am ashamed to say I did not beat :( It was great though, just imagine Shadow of the Colossus in punch out form as its just all boss fights with patterns. Not as much replay value unless you are trying to get best time runs, but still fun.

Castlevania IV Castlevania was my bae as a kid. Unfortunately I was in the minority of liking Simon Quest's open world and relaxed style a bit more. But CSIV was still incredible. You just had so much control, mmm! Has aged just a little as I'd prefer Symphony of the Night more.

Donkey Kong Country - I can't find the commerical on youtube, but it was a commercial of every review it go. A+, 100 100 100, and then flashed a hundred more reviews on a black screen with white letters. That was the commercial. It was just an adult swim style bumper that listed every accolade it got. That summed up the game. Hasn't aged at all, very playable, albeit very easy, even the 101% run.

Wasn't easy back then to me though as the stop & go level awkwardly ramped up the difficulty.

Megaman X

A game so good not even Inafune could recreate it with Mighty Number 9. Another game carefully crated so much everything is there for a reason. While I am not a big fan of the Mavericks than the corny man fans... er, man bosses, its still addicting and highly replayable albeit more difficult if you are doing a standard run (megabuster only)

Kirby Super Star

Okay I confess, I don't remember playing this as a kid.

I played Kirbys' Dream Course. WHY ISN'T THERE ANOTHER KIRBY'S DREAM COURSE! Dream course was awesome! So much to try and experiment, and that feeling when a crazy thing works!

What about secret of Evermore

Ha, I was full force into Evermore. I would read any unsealed gaming magazine looking for info on it.

JEREMY SOULE WORKED ON EVERMORE!

*ahem*

Also, Squaresoft US had a pretty tight budget doing whatever they could. Their leaky faucet was used as a sound effect if i recall reading in Nintendo Power.

The game itself is all right. Not god teir like Mana, but collecting ingredients was a bit more fun than drawing in FF8. Smooth play, fun bosses, that awesome spell that removed cooldown, and the big market was cool!

Star Fox

Ah, the game that killed off all those crappy Lawnmower man like VR games in big arcades. Those VR games sucked. Control was awful, the headsets didn't fit right, and the gyro was just annoying as you just felt a bar pressing in your chest than you felt like diving down.

Star Fox however was awesome! Has aged due to its choppiness though. More for novelty play. I had beaten it with all the routes and got the secret ending too.

By having only played Kirby's Dream Course, you are wrong, Kirby's Dream Course is the clear winner and i'll prove it by not playing Super Star so i'll never be wrong :)

Yoshi's Island There are 4 coins in Touch Fuzzy get dizzy that are hidden offscren and you can't scroll the camera up to see them. And I wish poochy responded faster instead of the 1 second delay and his awkward momentum.

Okay, that's all i have to complain about. Took me forever to 6 star this as a kid. I just beat it about 2 weeks ago, and just 100%'d world 1 last week :D

Super Mario RPG Just finished this a month ago after beating it many times when i first got it.

Okay, I don't think this was Nintendo, so i'm putting the blame on you,Squaresoft, because you pull this kind of ****.

A SKIPPABLE TREASURE CHEST! You only discover it when you get the item that tells you there was a chest in the room. And the only way to get it is the 2 second window when toad walks down the hall at the start of the game!! This is some top teir trolling, Squaresoft.

Also, you have to successfully superjump after the16th time within a 3 frame window 100 times?????? What are you doing to completionists!

Also, that stupid guessing game??? You want me to grind that? The lightning in FFX was at least tolerable because it was rhythm. But this is just blind luck!

I know I'm not the only one but I always feel alone in my distaste for DKC. It's not that I pointedly dislike it, I just don't care about it and never have. Loved SMW to hell and back, but I could literally not care less about DKC.

I frankly always hated quite a few details about the control in 2D Metroids but yes, stage design and atmosphere way more than makes up for it. Love those moments where you just kinda pick a direction and you're not sure if you're going the right way and then it's like wow I'm really in deep going off in this random direction and then you step in the wrong place and fall through the floor and it's like oh crap now I'm screwed but then boom you run into the next boss and it's like hell yeah I found it myself.

Another comment, though Kirby Superstar is an amazing game, I would call it at least second-best. Planet Robobot blew me away, and I might even call SS third just on the technicality that its own DS remake outdid it.

But it's still quite the feat to hold the #1 spot from the SNES to the 3DS!

I liked DKC 2 and 3 a lot more than the first one. I do think the series strongest aspect was its presentation.

Also just gonna say it here. Super Mario Bros 3 >> Super mari World. SMB 3 has more refined level design, more creative world design, better music, and as much as i like Yoshi hes not that fun to control in SMW.

Also Racoon/Tanooki Mario >>> Super hero mario.
