32 teams from 32 countries around the world. I set the game to only allow each team to field players from their nation.

They play 150 games with a balances schedule. This is to figure out seeding for the playoffs. Then the playoffs is 32v1, 31vs2 etc until two teams remain.

I kinda liked the idea of the regular season being "seeding" and then one bigass playoff.

The game has the option for each team to only be able to use players from their own nation, but in the game itself it can be difficult because the AI I dont think realizes this completely. Each team has a reserve roster of players from random nations. These guys cannot play and are all angry as a result. Four teams I could not no matter what get to fix their rosters(most teams has a field of players from home, some didnt), so I had to change the nationalities of some reserve roster players to the nation of the team.

this is holding for now. gonna sim 20 seasons then see what data the game produces.

I did notice one thing: in year 1 New Zealand finished in last 12-138. Their team ERA was abysmal at 21.00. I think because of the same nation req they were fielding teams of 12 players likely with batters pitching. I forgot to set up the playoffs for year one, but in year two with a much reduced team ERA of 8, they finish in last place yet again winning only 29 games. better but still awful.

In round 1 of the playoffs vs the #1 team, they lost that series 3-2, with the deciding game being lost 6-5. Almost a killer upset, beating a team they finished around 75 games behind in regular season play. That woulda been even more impressive than a 16 v 1 upset in the NCAA basketball tourney

If you do custom teams, the Rosiclare Rhinos need a comeback

We owned that last sim someone did for like a whole 30 or 40 years until our dynasty came to an end

I feel like i wouldnt mind doing something like that again, but not 100 years worth. I also did kinda drag it out because I was being lazy and wasnt updating as quickly as i could have.

I'll need to come up with something easier on my end that isnt the same exact idea with a shorter timespan.

I am down for doing another PotD sim, but I want to make it more interesting. I dont know what I would do. I mean, before it was just 100 years and champions, but I can change the league to do whatever the fuck I want: as many or as little games per season, as many teams, split the divisions however much I want, playoffs however I want...fuck I can even change the entire league composition to allow for more/less hitting.

Ive done both before: amazing pitchers and awful batters: the norm would be for games to go way beyond 9 innings, sometimes 50+ simply because the league average pitcher is gonna have an ERA of below 0.50, and a batter would be lucky to bat .100. I've also done leagues where pitching sucks and batters are awesome. scores like a mens softball league were common: 45-50. pitchers with ERAs well into quadruple digits, walks and homers left and right. normal batting average well over .500.

I can choose any season and replay it, I can start in historical years and advance like I did before all the way back to the 1870s.

the game is kinda sandboxy, I just need to come up with an interesting idea that people, even non sports fans could enjoy, that also might produce interesting results. Outside of Rosclaire being overtaken by i forget who, and I think Helly being a distant third, there wasnt a whole lot of tight races.

Though to be fair IRL the yankees have by far the most championships with i think 23.

any ideas would be welcome. I figure this could be interesting to do as playoffs approach.

The pitching in this league is a little weird, because I wanted it so. Teams are using 3 man rotations with some relievers, but relief usage is set to low. kinda like early 20th century baseball sorta.

Xw7ATUr

O_O;

mother of god. Only three pitchers have a career WAR worse than his season there. So that means if the team replaced him with a band old average player whose contributions and negative contributions would even out, theyd stand to gain 21 wins.

Turns out because of my silly cannot field foreign players rule they must have had a hard time keeping a team together and finished 9-141.

god damn.

Could you set up a league that had expansion teams join after a certain amount of years? That would be a neat touch.

You can have the league evolve, but I usually disable it because I like to keep what i started with, and if I am using real MLB teams you get expansion that doesnt make sense, like in a few years you could have the Rochester Polar Bears join Major League Baseball.

It happens randomly i think but i think you can add teams in commissioner mode at will.
