Can't put "dumb" and "stupid" in quotation marks because for some reason using a " counts as being more than one character. I also couldn't use "autistic" and "autism" as words in the topic title. GG GameFAQs.

Anyway, here's the question. Whenever you see or hear someone use "autistic" or "autism" as a replacement for "dumb", "stupid", "retarded", and the like, does it bother you? I'm interested to see what people think about this subject because to me it seems that more people are doing this. To be honest, I don't get it, and this coming from someone who isn't autistic.

Never heard it used that way, but that sounds pretty ignorant.

Kind of. I'm more annoyed by the meme status of it ("weaponized autism," "*autistic screeching*") than it being used as a direct insult.

I've worked with a number of children with autism or Down syndrome, but it hasn't made me all touchy about making light of it.

This is the one that bothers me the most. It's the one I come across a lot and because it's used so much, I get tired of seeing it. Whenever I see someone say "REEEEEEEEEE", I cringe on the inside because it looks and sounds dumb.

I actually thought it was kind of funny at first, but I got tired of it very quick. It's applied way too loosely.

No and anyone offended by this probably shouldn't be on the internet. It's just words, no need to get all worked up because of it.
