Particularly my duplicates.

Do I... turn them into gems?

Sell them. Use your new funds to buy more games. Get more trading cards. Rinse and repeat to get unlimited games.

"You rat! How dare you sell me so cheap." "NO ONE CALLS ME THAT WITHOUT SOME CHEESE!"
Life is uncertain. Eat dessert first.

It's much more worthwhile just selling them for the few cents they earn you. The amount of gems you get to the amount needed to cash them in is usually not worth it. Save up the change and buy the cards you do need, or keep saving for a game you want.

The only time I'd see gems worthwhile is for something that would only get you a single penny or something that has no buyers.

But you get, like, 10 cents a card. That's a LOT of cards you need to sell for a single game

Sure, but it's better than nothing.

Buy a cheap indie game if you want to make use of it sooner. Or just consider what you've earned a discount from what you were going to buy anyways. It's not like you can do anything else with your duplicates.
