so basically I want to practice storytelling and one of the methods I learned was to take words, or objects that have nothing to do with one another and write a short story merging them together.

So I ask of CE to give me a couple words, preferably nothing dirty as I'd like to keep this as close to pg 13 as possible, so I can try and turn them into a paragraph or two.

I would also prefer to keep it limited to objects if possible.

Can't guarantee it will be good, but I would at least like to stimulate my brain a little bit and give it a shot.

On our way to Marseilles we stopped at a small village nestled in the french countryside. The sun had just begun to set and we thought we could find a small inn to settle for the night. The atmosphere was very different than Paris. The village was only illuminated by the stars overhead. No street lights to mask the darkness, or cars to interrupt the quiet of pure nature that the countryside had to offer.

As we walked within the walls of the commune we noticed a small sign hanging from a door a couple buildings up from us. Upon closer inspection the sign was worn, but still legible "Auberge". Knocking at the door I had noticed that the clasp on her necklace had started to become undone. It fell from around her neck onto the cobblestone pavement below. I bent down and grabbed it, only to see that the ruby that was at its base was scratched. "Well if that isn't the...." as I was about to finish my sentence the door creaked open. A large man opened the door and said "puis-je vous aider". I looked at him and said "Anglais?". He had a disgusted look on his face.

"What do you want?" he replied. I said that we were passing through on our way to Marseilles, and were wondering if there were any rooms for rent.

Spitting on the ground he said "I don't like foreigners." and he started to head through the door once again. He motioned for us to follow and followed his statement with "but in today's society you can't be picky on who you serve." My wife asked him how much it would cost for a night. 300 euros. "that's a bit steep" I replied. "If you were french I would offer you a discount. But your not. 300 euros, that's as low as I'm willing to go."

"Can we have a moment?" I asked. "Go ahead, take all the time you need, its not like I don't have things to do right now." After discussing it with my wife we agreed that 300 euros for a night with such a view would be worth it. "ok, 300 euros. I pulled out a 500 euro note. "do you have change for a 5?", "No change". He grabbed the money out of my hand and handed me a key with a small tag that said 5 on it. "Room 5, up the stairs, last door on the left". He then proceeded to head behind the counter and put the money in a small drawer.

Heading up the stairs I noticed that stairs creaked with every climb. The inn was older than it seemed. We arrived at our room and opened the door. It was a small room, no bathroom but big enough to hold a twin size bed and a small desk just under the window overlooking the lush french forest.

"Do you think the car will be ok where we parked it?" my wife asked. "Honey, its the french country, its not like we are in the streets of New York. Leaving it where we did should be fine. Right now.... we should get some sleep so we can get up early tomorrow to meet Marco in Marseilles.

"I guess your right. Can you help me with my dress? the zipper seems to be stuck". "What would you do without me, ha ha". A couple minutes later we were lying in bed, gazing up at the stars through the large window of the inns room.

"Sweet Dreams" both of us said at the same time. We kissed and turned off the lamp.

Tomorrow is another day.
