I feel like the concept of a choker goes against the whole "women are empowered / women don't need no man" mentality. I mean they're basically collars, and the implication of a collar is that the wearer of a collar is owned by someone else.

because they weren't popular by the previous generation and are socially acceptable so they are popular by this one.

Chokers were popular like 25 years ago. That's a previous generation.


it was more a gen xer thing from what I saw. and 25 years is a full generation. they were also more of a counter culture thing at least where I was, than a mainstream thing.
