I just came across a cassette tape.

It was recorded about a decade ago when my grandma died at the hospital.

It's a recorded phone call.

My mom was talking to a lawyer about the legality of sending my grandma's hospital files to hundreds of medical clinics in the hope that one of them would read through it and realize that my grandma was murdered.

The lawyer was telling my mom that it's not technically illegal to send the file to the clinics, but that it could cause problems.

My mom was complaining that the hospital did nothing about the murder.

The lawyer said that there may have been some problems with some things that happened with my grandma, like how the window was left open through the night at some point and it made the room cold.

But the lawyer said that the hospital did nothing because the letter my mom sent to the ombudsman was filled with strange threats and accusations, like saying the hospital's documents were falsified to fake the time of death, that some haitian nurses killed my grandma in a weird voo-doo ritual, that the lady in the room with her left the curtains open and turned my granma's head toward the sun to burn her eyes, that they put her in a casket while she was still alive, etc.

Basically, what happened was that the hospital replied to my mom's letter by offering psychological help. My mom reacted as though they were threatening her because she was exposing her crimes, so she went to the police (who told her there was no evidence of a crime) and to the newspapers (who didn't want to cover the story).

So, in the phone call the lawyer was telling my mom that the letter didn't get the results she wanted because of the tone of the letter and because there were too many things in the letter that made her sound obsessive. Also the lawyer said that if she was to send my grandma's file to hundreds of clinics as if she was planning to, after what she already did, then there is a possibility she may be forcibly interned in a psychiatric hospital.

My mom was super aggressive on the phone and didn't want to hear anything.

In any case...

Yeah.

When the dog died, she thought my grandma killed the dog and screamed "murderer" at her.
When my granpa died, she thought my aunt killed him by slipping meds in his food.
She also thinks my dad's mom tried to kill her (by giving her directions to walk to the metro that involved a road that was slippery because of the ice).

Basically, every time someone dies, she is certain that it's a murder.

She also thinks my dad wants to kill me to get life insurance. There is no life insurance on me, but she's convinced that there's one that my dad is hiding somewhere.

She also accuses me of being on drugs and stealing money from her purse (neither of which I ever did).

I hate my life.

My wife's mother is very similar. It's funny and very very sad at the same time. It's funny because of how ridiculous the accusations and scenarios she comes up with are and it's sad because you are literally watching someone suffer through something that is not their fault. The worst part is when people have offered help or to get her help she is convinced it's an attempt to lock her away forever.

at first i was gonna say she was acting irrationally due to the grief of losing her mother...but after reading the part where she does the same thing after every single death...something does seem off about her (no offense)

Believe me her behaviour makes everyone wish we could at times. The problem is she is of sound enough mind that they would be unable to keep her there.

Well it's more like... when I was a kid I couldn't be sick or have any kind of problems whatsoever

Like, if my mom even suspected that I had a headache or a cold, she'd scream at me and threaten to abandon me on the side of the road. Her face was literally twisted in anger at me if I dared not feel well (because it was obviously my fault, I must have done something to make myself sick)

So sometimes even today I'm still kind of afraid to be sick or admit that I'm not feeling well. Like I would go to work with a huge fever and I have the impulse to do everything I can to hide it

Like, if I obviously have a cold and I sneeze, I have to make an excuse to explain why I sneezed because I'm afraid that people will know I have a cold

Well it's a long story. She grew up in poverty in post-war italy and it made her nuts. Also her parents beat her up but then when her little sister was born (her little sister, my aunt, is about 10 years younger) they treated her like a princess

Anyway, lots of things happened that made her this way
