That would be the 1980 Olympic Hockey team my friend.

It will likely never be surpassed either bar like a peewee team beating an NFL one in the Super Bowl.

Jack Johnson vs. James Jeffries might qualify as the biggest upset in boxing history.

Wouldn't Buster Douglas V Mike Tyson or Randy T vs Sugar Ray be bigger?

I honestly am asking cause I only barely remember anything about JJ V JJ.

Possibly. The JJ v JJ fight was just simply about the first black heavyweight champion surprising the world and showing that he wasn't the garbage they thought he was. I guess I meant for impact on the sport.

Admittedly, if McGregor gets the win, this could be a bigger impact, mostly because it would spell the complete end for boxing.

Ya that's very true. Appreciate the info, I knew I recognized the fight as one I've looked into but couldn't remember why, it was like early 30's IIRC ya?

this will definitely surpass it

its an MMA fighters debut pro fight vs one of the greatest defensive boxers of all time

the hockey game would be nothing compared to this if mcgregor wins. Do you know the betting odds at all?

Not one of, he is the greatest defensive boxer of all time. It's not even debatable. And I agree this would be the biggest upset. All the other large upsets were still between athletes who specialised in that sport, this is an amateur boxer facing one of the top 5 greatest pound for pound fighters of all and could argued as the GOAT.

And the betting odds make this fight seem more competitive than it should be. McGregor has been given better odds to win than Canelo was... The dude should be no better than 20:1 but is currently 3.5:1 because of the casuals.

I do. Still disagree though.

Don't blame you for disagreeing either but I don't think you actually realize what the miracle on Ice is or what was involved.

Mayweather in this shape is nothing compared to the USSRs team who were in their prime being beaten by a group of college kids who had played together for about 8 months.

It's not comparable.

Yeah, the Miracle on Ice was a monumental upset. Nothing close to what's been discussed in this topic.

Shit, the Mavs beating the Heat in the 2011 NBA Finals might be a bigger upset than this.. well, except for the fact that this could literally destroy a sport.

Yeah the jack Johnson fight caused riots and people died. Hard to imagine that happening ever again.

This mcgregory fight doesn't mean much, not like Floyd is some super killer in the ring, and mcgregory is not a boxer so forget it. Floyd patty cakes to a decision.

It's not that big of an upset, Jeffries was semi-retired and was pushed into fighting Johnson by white America who wanted to see a white-man upset him. To me the biggest upset of the HW's is either Buster Douglas vs Mike Tyson or Wladmir Klitchko vs Lamon Brewster or Ross Purrity
