I've never had an issue separating fantasy from reality, folks. Never in my life. Movies were movies, books were books, and there was always a simple, mundane explanation for a noise in the night or a silhouette in the dark. So, to say I don't believe in the supernatural is a fair statement. There aren't ghosts. There's no demons. The worst thing in the world is people. Always watch out for people.

Well, that was me up until a couple months back. Not anymore. I took a new position at my work place. A large freezer, a few thousand square feet, tall as a gymnasium. You could fit a few basketball courts in there, easy. Other employees come in, but only from one of the two main doors, and never for more than a few minutes. I'm left to my own devices when it comes to completing the work and asking for help is unheard of, so no chance of gaining a coworker in there. The last guy quit, and wouldn't tell anyone why, he just said he couldn't do it anymore. We all thought he was talking about the workload. I wish I could ask him.

I am very, very underpaid for this job, but I like it enough to stay anyway. The conditions are harsh - sub-zero temperatures, the floor is sometimes slick and dangerous, the manual labor involves lifting up to 50 pound boxes in repetitions of, at times, up to 100 when necessary. Granted it's usually not that bad, but a situation like that can arise and has a couple times since I've started. It all depends on customer orders, and every day I go in hoping nobody orders something like that.

Since I've started working in this room, I've been seeing, and hearing things on a regular basis. I wanted to believe at first that it was just the loneliness of the room getting to me, or perhaps the cold numbing my brain or the exhaustion making me see or hear things. There are no windows, and no sound except the overhead fans that are constantly running. They make a loud, but low hum that could easily drown out a whisper.

Every now and then, out of the corner of my eye, I'd see something move just out of sight. Sometimes, I could swear I'd hear singing. But I'm a bold motherfucker. I would often walk to the source instead of away from it, and then it would fade away. I could never get eyes directly on the moving shadows, I could never see the source of the singing. Then the other day it happened. I've been having this routine of convincing myself that I'm alone, that I'm not afraid, I'd hum or sing to myself to keep myself focused and distracted all at once. And I was working, stacking an order like I always do. I was staring almost straight down, looking at a label, when a leg stepped into view. A female leg, in hose. I jumped back. My heart nearly exploded, I could feel it. Nothing was there. But this wasn't a vague shape, and it wasn't in my peripheral. It was a human female leg, in hose, with a slipper.

So I spent the last few days freaking the fuck out and trying to avoid going in there at any cost, much to my manager's grief. I almost considered explaining what was going on to him, but I didn't want to seem like a wackjob. So I did some research into the building. Nobody has died there since the company got its name. Great stuff, cool. Well, it turns out the company had another name before this one. And that one, nobody died at that time either. But unfortunately, there's more. Before that, it was just an empty building. It was built and then later sold, and sure enough, during construction one of the workers was bringing their kid to the job site, a 13 year old girl, and the girl was tragically killed playing around some machinery when the operator didn't see her. This is some horror movie shit here.

I don't want to name the companies or where I work, but god damn it. I have to go back Monday. I have to go back every day from now on, and I am certain this shit is real. I've never been pushed to feel totally illogical before, but here I sit, out of my mind, talking about ghosts on a video game website. Maybe she's nice. Hasn't killed me yet...

Ghosts are real and I believe you TC. As long as it's not a demonic haunting (demons are known to masquerade as children) then you should be fine. She's probably just lonely. Try talking to her. I know it's super tough to not be scared, but ya gotta try. I think you'll be fine. Just gotta accept her

Where I work has been there since 1960, but the building itself is from the early 1900's. The floors are even still original, it's recognized as a pretty historic place.

When I started working there, and got trained, and started closing alone, I would constantly see quick shadows in the back of the shop, and heard what sounded like foot steps and floorboards creaking. It convinced me so much that I went back there a few times thinking there was someone still there that I had missed before closing and went to tell them we were closed. There was never anyone.

A few of the ladies I worked with, some had been there 25+ years, and one is among the most Christian, bible loving people i've ever met in my life, told me they constantly had similar encounters to the point that for a while they had trouble keeping people employed to close at night and no one wanted to do it. The back office door of the original owner, who died in his office from a heart attack, is found open a lot, and it's a very secure, latching door. It's not like you have to pull it hard to get it to close properly, and it doesn't have a spring or anything that causes it to swing open on it's own when opened.

It doesn't scare me or intimidate me personally, that's why I generally close 5 nights a week, but I have had a few dozen instances of this happening after being there for nearly 3 years.

I can't entirely call it a ghost, but it's a form of energy that seems to release every now and then that can't be explained. I find it interesting.

I mean, if she's not hostile, why not just make an effort to communicate normally or otherwise leave me alone? Looking at the facts like the objective human being I am, nobody has died in there, before or after my company took over, so whatever she is, she's not the killing type of... thing. But why make herself known if she doesn't want to be known? Why sing and then vanish, or why run when I come near? Why approach me while I work and then flee if I actually try to see her? Makes no sense. The previous guy worked in there eight months. In all that time, she didn't kill or even harm him. But he had to be aware, why quit suddenly like that and refuse to explain it? I need to get his last name and talk to him on Facebook or something.

I'm jealous, man. I've never been scared of anything but wild animals, extreme heights and other people. This shit is just rattling my brain. How do you not feel the fear?
