News anchor: "The US Navy is on the way to lend a helping hand to Houston, doesn't that sound reassuring"

I don't think she intended it that way but she sounded super sarcastic <_<

Harvey unfortunately got back out over the Gulf and now seems to be reloading. Dry air is still trying to get in there, so hopefully that gives Houston SOME relief.

Honestly, just the fact that the center is moving closer to Houston is a help at this point - the heaviest rain bands being east into Louisiana means that we're not getting nearly as much rain, which is a relief in itself.

Getting stronger winds sucks (though how much it will strengthen is still in question), but getting more rain dumped in would be worse.

I'm starting to understand the full scope of this storm.

From wikipedia...
Hurricane Katrina also brought heavy rain to Louisiana, with 8–10 inches (200–250 mm) falling on a wide swath of the eastern part of the state. In the area around Slidell, the rainfall was even higher, and the highest rainfall recorded in the state was approximately 15 inches (380 mm).

From CNN...
Several locales have received 2 feet or more of rain, and forecasters say a reprieve won't arrive until week's end at the earliest. By then, rain totals could reach another 2 feet -- with isolated instances of 40 to 50 more inches -- along the upper Texas coast.

Fuck...

Yeah, it takes a bit to really get it, especially with how many Texans are helping out there. Doesn't make it seem as bad despite it having major potential to being worse and by the numbers it's likely ending more damaging. There's little prep that could've been done to deal with this, it's breaking records hundreds of years old.

I'm up to four tupperware containers catching drops coming from the windows. And a garbage bag duct-taped over a wet spot appearing in the wall below the window.

Chemical plant in Houston exploded and could potentially explode again. It sent police officers to the hospital.

I think everything that could've possibly gone wrong with this storm has gone wrong. My heart weeps for everyone having to deal with this.

nah, that plant was known to explode since over a day before it did. there was ample warning about its status so it's not terribly surprising. sucks for anyone nearby though. and hey, if this is the most damage getting hit by the same fucking storm three times can do... gotta say, houston got off lucky.

Found out one of my friends got displaced by the hurricane. His car got submerged and his house got flooded, wasn't even able to take along any personal belongings.
