Yes, but not intentionally. Just so happens that I have to connect a bunch of stuff to two sockets and a surge protector is the easiest way to manage that.

Why wouldn't people? Just a flat out better power strip. Though some people forget to replace it and it basically is just power strip.

Pretty much this. For the longest time, I didn't even know it did anything other than give me more sockets.
