I never give any of them any money. I'll smile and acknowledge them if they do the same for me, but I won't give them anything. I only really have George Washington currency items and both kinds are for bus fare, so they have a purpose to me and I ain't giving them away.

my town is like the one from Rambo: First Blood. Panhandlers and drifters are moved out of the city. So nice being able to shop without having beggers at every grocery store (not to be confused with baggers).

As someone that was formerly homeless and not a crack fiend, gonna have to disagree. If you're interested to where that particular money would have gone to, probably beer cigarettes, McDonalds and the occasional hotel room which offered a wonderful blanket of security. The beer and cigarettes probably helped me cope with my mental disorder, and i bought the cheap 40's for a buck or two. I'd still help someone get these things if i had the spare change, because i know how valuable it is to them.

Why do a lot of them act like dicks when they try to force themselves onto you.

Like they just walk up randomly and start TRYING to wash or park your car, and then get butt hurt when you don't have any money. It's not like you asked them to wash the window (poorly)or park the car. They just "volunteered" themselves into it.

That's how you know I will spend money on McDonalds and not booze." (The words you're speaking and the wine on your breath are not telling me the same story...)

"I need the money to buy a bag of weed" and "I need money for cock enlargement surgery" (this was the same dude. He thought he'd have better success by going for the "bet you haven't heard THAT before" routine. He got chuckles from me, but no cash)

also once saw a sign that said "Not gonna lie. I just want money for beer."

that's great. Yeah, cigarettes are way too expensive these days...7 bucks a pack. I wouldn't give them money they could use to buy a pack either. This is really how it should be done. Don't be above the occasional beer, though! Homeless life, especially in a dangerous city is quite stressful. ;)

I straight up ignore them unless they harass me, at which point I tell them I dont have cash. Some of them even have the audacity to tell me to find an ATM. Absurd.

I dont hate homeless people, i think it is a solvable problem and just giving homeless people money isn't solving the problem. i think the homes for homeless with social services is the solution.

It is idiotic to automatically assume someone is begging for money because they have an addiction. It is possible that is the cause, but not always.

I don't always do it - if I could afford it, I certainly would, though - and I usually don't carry cash on me, but I do sometimes tell them this and offer to buy something. a few times I've bought a beer and a sandwich for a guy outside a grocery store

There is nothing admirable about giving money to homeless people. People only do it so they can pat themselves on the back. If you want to help, donate money directly to a homeless shelter.
