The story is actually pretty typical, but the way it's told is phenomenal and tends to draw emotion from the player. It helps the voice acting was superb.

Chronicles 2 isn't out yet though. Did you mean Chronicles X?

The story in XBC was enjoyable, but nothing too special. I liked the game not so much for the perfectly serviceable story, but for the fun gameplay, the cool setting, the awesome soundtrack, the entertaining characters, etc.

My only gripe about the game is how easily you can trivialize the content. I mean, if you're, say, 5 levels or more over a boss, then that boss can't challenge you. The way the hit and evasion chance scales with levels means if you're like 5+ levels above a boss, it will barely be able to even touch you. And vice versa, of course, but at least when you're under leveled, you have ways of boosting your accuracy to make up for it.

I never finished the game, but I loved the music and gameplay until I was overleveled and nothing was a challenge because I decided to explore and do sidequests. It's one of the worst offenders in overleveling in RPGs.

I bought the game only knowing it was an jRPG and nothing else after I heard this song:

I loved the game and the story and then the ending happened
