If you are changing the race of mah man Roland, his backstory and relations with other characters that pop up in the story, you can't also pretend you're making a "sequel". You're clearly re-adapting the material within another context, not just tagging on extra at the end of it. That's bullshit and it's bullshit you spewed for the sole purpose of creating a defense against fans having poor opinions of the changes you made.
Also, if you're so drastically redesigning the character, how about keeping the rest of his visual expression intact? Why doesn't he have his silhouettic cowboyder hat? Would you make an Indiana Jones movie where he doesn't wear his hat? Why doesn't he have his characteristic blue eyes? They were a reference to Henry Fonda's character Frank in Once Upon a Time in the West and they were a great character trait, not only for their visual contrast but also because of the similarities hidden Behind Blue Eyes (get it?) within the two characters. If it's not a straight adaptation why not have him already have lost two of his fingers to have that striking visual characterization of him? You do everything else in the movie you can to bring down his power level below 9,000, so why not this? Why not have him lose them int he course of the movie? If you want to have Idris Elba for the role, fine, but why won't you do anything else to make me believe "this is Roland Deschain of Gilead, gunslinger of the Line of Eld"? I mean you don't do it through worthwhile acting coaching, good dialogue or writing, so why at least not give me the visual identifiers? By the way, the movie was a god damn piece of garbage, way worse than the internet thinks. (not) Literally the worst movie ever made. Please don't make any more Sony. Just stop. You are awful. ...
