Don't remember him worshiping flags of treason and oppression either

From Wikipedia:

The name "War of Northern Aggression" has been used to indicate the Union side as the belligerent party in the war.[22] Though sometimes used only jokingly today,[23] the name arose in the 1950s during the Jim Crow era, when it was coined by segregationists who tried to equate contemporary efforts to end segregation with 19th century efforts to abolish slavery.

But this is not true.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Names_of_the_American_Civil_Wa

In several European languages, the war is called "War of Secession". In most East Asian languages, the war is called "Battle between North and South side of the United States" or more commonly as "American (US) North–South War", depending on the individual language.
...
English-speaking historians[9][10][11] outside the United States usually refer to the conflict as the "American Civil War". These variations are also used in the United States in cases in which the war might otherwise be confused with another historical event (such as the English Civil War, the Irish Civil War or the Spanish Civil War).

Know who also thought we shouldn't erect statues of the Confederacy?

Robert E Lee

“I think it wiser,” the retired military leader wrote about a proposed Gettysburg memorial in 1869, “…not to keep open the sores of war but to follow the examples of those nations who endeavored to obliterate the marks of civil strife, to commit to oblivion the feelings engendered.”

Only in Northern propaganda was the civil war ever about slavery.

http://www.civil-war.net/pages/mississippi_declaration.asp
A Declaration of the Immediate Causes which Induce and Justify the Secession of the State of Mississippi from the Federal Union

In the momentous step, which our State has taken of dissolving its connection with the government of which we so long formed a part, it is but just that we should declare the prominent reasons which have induced our course.

Our position is thoroughly identified with the institution of slavery - the greatest material interest of the world. Its labor supplies the product, which constitutes by far the largest and most important portions of commerce of the earth. These products are peculiar to the climate verging on the tropical regions, and by an imperious law of nature, none but the black race can bear exposure to the tropical sun. These products have become necessities of the world, and a blow at slavery is a blow at commerce and civilization. That blow has been long aimed at the institution, and was at the point of reaching its consummation. There was no choice left us but submission to the mandates of abolition, or a dissolution of the Union, whose principles had been subverted to work out our ruin.

http://civilwarcauses.org/corner.htm
But not to be tedious in enumerating the numerous changes for the better, allow me to allude to one other -- though last, not least. The new constitution has put at rest, forever, all the agitating questions relating to our peculiar institution -- African slavery as it exists amongst us -- the proper status of the negro in our form of civilization. This was the immediate cause of the late rupture and present revolution.

Our new government is founded upon exactly the opposite idea; its foundations are laid, its corner- stone rests upon the great truth, that the negro is not equal to the white man; that slavery -- subordination to the superior race -- is his natural and normal condition. [Applause.] This, our new government, is the first, in the history of the world, based upon this great physical, philosophical, and moral truth.

I think that Confederate statues with historic significance belong in a museum. Keep in mind that doesn't mean any statue of a confederate, of which many were put up to spite the Civil Rights movements, but ones that have a history surrounding it or legitimate artistic importance.

That's where Stone Mountain gets tricky. It's objectively a tribute to Confederacy, but it also carries with it historical significance and is if nothing else artistically impressive. So I don't know what the right answer is.

Im indifferent about this but wow... the activists are taking it to the next level and we should all be concerned. These guys arent heroes. Theyre as much as their counterparts are. These guys are using the excuse of hate to commit their own crimes.

These activists are going too far and using the mob to destroy property. It stood there for decades as a monumental and part of the community. Sure they might of not liked it but the statue didnt mean it stood up for inequality. It also meant a recognition of the past, a moment to reflect on life back then, and a how we can make it better for all citizens. It represented growth to rise above hate and how far we as society have gone. To me, forgetting the past like that makes us even more susceptible to repeat it. Guess whats happening... civil unrest. Racial tension. Its out there in the open no longer present in closed doors. Its here and in your face.

What happens when theres nothing left to destroy and take down. Guess what... the symbol the represent some people live on then these activists will stomp out the hate and bigotry with their own hate and bigotry towards it.

Dont you see. People respond to this kind of thing because they took something that wasnt theirs. Its inevitable we are going to see more of everything now. Social media made everything transparent and the mob mentality is affecting us all.
