Only 3 days old, had rare metabolic abnormality. depressing as fuck. Dad was military too, just flew in from different country to see his new son.

Eh, I'm used to older adults dying, it's part of life. sucks but at some point it's expected. Never get used to seeing dead kids, nor should you :-/

Yeah, its pretty terrible. Makes you feel like shit for a week. Definitely the worst part of the job tbh. That and telling people they have cancer or a terminal diagnosis, just sucks.

Last year I had this real nice 86ish year old dude who's kidneys shut down after a bad infection and was going to need to go on dialysis. He decided he didn't want that, so we set him up with hospice since he was probably going to die in a week or so with nonfunctional kidneys.

Anyway, I go to check on him morning afterwards and he's sitting alone in the corner of his room in total darkness. I come in, turn on a lamp, and sit down next to him and ask him what he's doing. he just slowly turns towards me and says, "Oh. You know. Just thinking about....the end.

Then just turned back toward nothing.

That shit haunted me for a week
