When it comes to the left, there are different standards for white people and "people of color" (everybody else on the planet). This seems to stem from learning a version of history where only whites committed genocide and owned slaves. This type of narrative reminds me of conspiracy theorists on the far right who think every bad event in modern history can be traced to Jews.

Because our country is the United States and the focus is on American history. There are still public monuments dedicated to the Confederacy and what they fought for. It's not ancient history, there are still many people that celebrate it.

This phenomenon extends beyond the USA. Do we hear about any country that isn't majority white needing to embrace more diversity? Is it racist for them to have borders? Every culture has done horrible things in modern history but only western cultures believe that they carry original sin around their necks.

And not everybody in the confederacy was fighting for their one really rich neighbor's right to own slaves. I'm not saying slavery wasn't a political factor.

So just for reference, I'm only concerned about double standards. Many white countries have become multicultural countries and that isn't changing. Ok, so we have to get along. However, "fuck white people" is not a sustainable way to get along in a multicultural society. That's what South Africa turned into after the pendulum swung way too far the other way and I don't want to live in South Africa. Racism has to be condemned in all forms. Identity politics is either ok for everybody (not preferable) or nobody (preferable).
