I was using AVG for awhile but my subscription ran out and I don't want to renew. What's something that's actually free without requiring a credit card in any way and can really delete things not just alert me to them?

Microsoft Security Essentials? almost?

actually I can't even tell if it still works on XP these days. I guess maybe it doesn't work at all now. at first it was just "MSE won't get any more updates", ok. but it sure seems like it doesn't work at all now.

what I would do is, make sure you have ALL windows updates, and don't run as an administrative user. it's a lot more of a pain to run as a limited user in XP than in Vista+ due to not having UAC, but it's a LOT safer than running as an admin. make some admin account that you can use to install and configure things (with "run as", never login as that user, and be careful what you do with processes that are running administratively), and be very cautious about what you install. (remember that installing software is like injecting yourself with a syringe.)

Your best bet would be to not use Windows XP anymore dude it's not 2003 mate.

Seriously I thought it was incredibly dangerous to still be using that on any computer with an internet connection. Microsoft isn't patching any vulnerabilities anymore and I don't expect antivirus software to spend their time patching them, either.

The 09 relates to the day of the month, born in '88.

I know I'm a cheap fucker but right now a new laptop isn't in the budget. I've had this for awhile because all I needed for school was internet and word processor. It's getting a bit on now and some days it's slow when downloading and internet browsing at the same time. I don't dare play videos on here. My PS4 is my entertainment system more than a gaming system.

Right now I'm saving up money to pay off some debt to my parents. My main goal is saving up to move out and not just out of the house but to another state. I shouldn't spend any money on things I don't really need right now. Here are a few things I want that are in the triple digit price range:

-Larger HDTV in 1080. Mine is 32" 720
-New laptop
-Car parts (fog lights, new bumper inset, and seat covers)

I've been using Avast for years and it apparently still supports XP. Doesn't require entering any kind of information aside from an email address, but it can be a little naggy about trying to get you to use some of their paid services. Of course that is in Windows 10 where I get system notifications...not sure what it would do under XP.
