Yay, Blighttown! I saw a god damn bonfire right in front of me and then the floor boards I'm walking across break so I can't find my way back to it because I can't light my torch before reaching the bonfire. And I spend all my estus to restore the fall damage from getting down here X_X X_X X_X

At least the frame rate is stable.

You probably have an item that will light a torch.

How do NPC invasions (and invasions in general) work in Dark Souls 2? In DkS1 you had to become human to get invaded, but from what I can tell in DkS2 becoming human disencourages invasions?

It's tied to the local bonfires/boss. When you defeat the boss or burn a specific item at the fire you get 20(?) minutes of no invasions. When you rest you can see the timer counting down.

there's a cool ring in the woods, though, where if you get hit enough, it causes little explosions that hurt your enemies.

really helped out with bosses and invasions.

i think it was my least favorite fight in the game, just in terms of fun. thankfully it was stupidly easy, but there was nothing fun or engaging about it. dark souls 3 has a better version of this fight (deacons of the deep), but that's still a stupid fight

Yeah, it's stupid. It worked in Demon's Souls cause it was designed so that you complete a level to the boss and then return to the Nexus.

In the context of this game it is just annoying to have to constantly port back to Majula.

They nerfed the crap out of the Shrine of Amana after all the babies cried about it being too hard.

The biggest problem with DS2 is old DS1 players who didn't want to adjust to a new game.

They nerfed Shrine of Amana? What? I played at release and had no trouble with the section. Thought it was quite good tbh

Executioner's Chariot is another boss using the "can't design a proper fight? Throw a bunch of shit at you to wear down your defenses and keep your eyes off the big guy" boss philosophy.

It's basically designed like Nito, but without the option to limit the skeletons to a few by limiting your own movement range and in return the boss itself is just boring. I did like the first part of the fight, though. Very God of War-ish. But at the very least. At the very least in the second phase the skellies should have permadeath and in return the boss should be less lame.

Overall I just don't think the Souls combat system (and camera) is too shabby with multiple enemies and for some reason DkS2 doesn't realize/care. Something like O&S was superbly designed to make up for these issues, but that same care is not taken in the sequel.

Edit: Oh, and ranged sorcerers/skeleton archers in this fight are absolute bullshit

Edit2: Oh apparently the sorcerers are necromancers keeping the skellies alive. Fair enough. Sort of. But that doesn't change much. If you get at them the boss is rendered impotent and boring. The skeletons are there to disguise poor design.

Is there anything at Harvest Valley or is it just a pass-over area on the way to Earthen Peak? I explored a little, found a shopkeep or two, some items, but not anything insinuating alternative paths (aside from the two entryways to Earthen Peak) or bosses and I got very confused going through.

they made the homing missiles easier to dodge. IMO the shrine is one of the least fun areas ive ever played in a video game. its like the devs sat around and tried to make the most unpleasant level possible.

I heard there were some geography inconsistencies in the game, but holy hell @ Earthen Peak -> Bowser's Castle.

Smelter Demon was a lot of fun. Mytha and Iron King were boring, though. Mytha might be the least interesting boss in the game so far.

Got all four great souls now and I kind of expected the Emerald Herald to at least give me a hint as to where to go next, but nope! ._.

Gonna try to figure it out, though, so don't say.

Reached Shrine of Amana, guess I'm supposed to start hating now >_>

Also before the dragonriders of Pern in Drangleic castle, there clearly is a woman sitting on a throne, but I couldn't get across to her. Is this supposed to be true or should I head back and find a way towards her?

I haven't used any of my boss souls, are there any particularly good things to do with them for someone who is mainly melee but dabbles in pyromancy?

Would now be a good time to start doing some DLC?

Also, what are some good uses of fragrant branches? I have I think 4 but haven't had anything to use them on in a while. There were quite a few statues in shaded woods. At least one of which guarded a chest.

She shows up later at a lower level of the castle, iirc. She wasn't too happy with me, so I had to lay the smack down.

I only used two or three of the boss souls, and always to upgrade my weapons to the elite ones. My only suggestion is to really think about which upgrade you want because you don't want to waste it on a weapon you end up not really using.
