I just used a whole can of Hot Shot on this nest of hornets. They were living in this hole they'd bored into the side of an unused cat door to the garage. There must have been 50 of them and that stuff did not kill on contact.

when it's in the ground, undiluted starsan acid sanitizer keeps them from coming out as it is too viscous for them to fly

If you get a nest in the ground, that's hands down the best way. Also, I drove to the store to see what they've got. Problem is a hailstorm started and now it's just storming.
