No because society considers long hair on men to be professional and long hair on women to be professional. It's not about the long and short it's about keeping appearances. Same reason it wouldnt be sexist to say men need to shave or can't wear dresses.

people need to remember that life is about living, not working. Your job should not require you to do shit that intrudes on your personal life.

What difference does long hair make if it's on a woman or a man? Long hair is still long hair. Physical appearance shouldn't matter much as long as the employee is being productive and yielding positive output.

for men this includes facial hair as well. like if you work with food than i can see them making you shave/cut your hair for health reasons. but if they do then girls should have to wear hairnets. other than that they shouldn't be allowed to but they still can.

No an employer is not sexist because they want you to look professional. The argument can be made that society is sexist for having different standards but for the employer its not arbitrary. It's wanting a professional look.

Requiring men to shave their backs or women to shave their pits would be sexist as it's not applicable to your job or professional look.

technically yes it's sexist, but it's "professionally accepted" sexism

for it not to be sexist, employees would be allowed to dress with equal options regardless of gender
and be put under equal grooming expectations
that's not the common case...

So if the man's long hair is well groomed, well maintained, and isn't unkempt, it's still an unprofessional look? In a way, they're wanting the man to conform to society's definition of what a man should look like; sporting short hair. Long hair is "unmanly" and gives off negative vibes.

Depends on if whoever keep it groomed.

Also safety reasons can be involved.

Like wearing it up out of the way of machinery or the likes.

definitely sexist. at my work i had a coworker that had long hair. our dress policy doesn't say men have to have short hair, so it wasn't a problem.

hell i think long hair on a man is stupid, but i'll defend your right to have it.
