Dogs are greater than or equal to cats. Very close call, but dogs are a bit more domesticated and loyal.

I had a cat that unfortunately passed, but when me and my wife would play fight or wrestle, he legit thought I was in distress, come over to me, grab my arm with his mouth and try to pull me away from her thinking I was in trouble or in pain.

My dumb dog would just see that as an advantage to go eat out of the garbage can in the kitchen while we weren't paying attention.

So in that case the cat was loyal and the dog was smart... interesting

Really? Anytime I want to pet my dog I can just call it's name and it will be there in a second to be loved and love me back. 99% of the time I want to pet my cat it won't come, or will lay down right out of reach of being pet and flop around like you have to do work to pet it, and it might just scratch or bite if it isn't pet to its standards.

My cats always come when I call them. They always want to be in the same room as me too. One of them is extra careful with his claws when we play so as not to hurt me (the other tries but is kinda dumb).

I think cats can be very loyal but are just much more selective about who.

Great, I'm not even a good selection for a cat. It always wants to be in the same room as me too but atleast a foot away. Sometimes it even wakes up meowing and looking for me. It's just distant at the same time, won't sit on my lap or anything but on the table next to me, weird about being pet too long.

Cats are all different and love differently. The fact that it wants to be near you all the time says a lot, actually.
