My current colony is pretty average. Two people are willing to clean up and haul stuff, and the other three are pampered divas. We have some crops, heating and cooling, and some turret defenses. We get occasional raider attacks, which were always easily defeated, but I wanted to try to capitalize on one of the attacks.

After achieving victory over an attempted raid party, one raider was left wounded on the ground, and the rest were dead. We captured the surviving raider, and kept him as a prisoner. When it became obvious that the raider would be too tough to recruit, we took his left lung, left kidney, and liver. My colonists did not like this.

Most of my colonists felt extremely guilty, and incurred massive mood debuffs. One of my star haulers, Macias, was a psychopath, so she wasn't affected, but my other star hauler, Boozer, was an absolute wreck from it all. He went in to a psychotic daze, and wandered around outside overnight, hungry and cold. Eventually I had to get Macias to arrest Boozer just so that he wouldn't get himself killed.

Boozer was later released, and things are starting to get back to normal now that the massive mood debuffs are going away, but I'll need to be more careful in the future to balance money and innocence.

can you get a job in rimworld?

You can assign each of your colonists to different roles. They may be incapable of or unskilled in certain roles depending on their background, personality, or amount of time they've spent learning that skill in-game. A big part of Rimworld is divvying out the work as efficiently as you can.

For example, I have someone who is quite skilled at mining, but they refuse to haul any of the materials back to base, so I usually send a mediocre miner who is capable of hauling. I use the non-hauling miner for when I want carve out mountains with no concern for whether I get the materials back.

So, if we can get a job in rimworld, would it be correct to call it a rim job?

Ugh.

Anyway, we rescued someone fleeing from raiders. We killed one of the raiders, scoring a free shotgun, and we captured another raider. I learned the perils of organ harvesting the hard way before, so this time I merely sold the raider in to slavery. The debuff from being slavers is much smaller than the debuff from being organ harvesters, so that's pretty great.

And if that's not good enough, the person we rescued is a hauler!

Maybe I'm just shallow but the graphics turn me off. It looks like a neat game otherwise though

Just fought off another raider assault which severely wounded three of my colonists. Our doctor, Yukiko, spent all night treating and feeding the wounded. Everyone seems to be on track to recover.

Things are looking up though. The slain attackers dropped an LMG and a machine pistol that will be put to good use. Our greenhouse is full of crops ready to harvest. The bandit graveyard is starting to fill up nicely.

The assault on our colony brought to light some important security concerns:
1. Rocks surrounding the base provide cover for raiders to hide behind and fire at us from. I will assign our haulers to move the rocks elsewhere.
2. The automatic turrets placed near our entrances are too easily destroyed by rushing raiders. I will close off two of the entrances to my base, and cover that entrance with three turrets.
3. I was failing to consider the range of my weaponry when choosing what gun to use. I had someone with a shotgun just sitting behind sandbags and doing nothing but get shot at. I'll put walls up far away from our entrance to cut off distant line-of-sight, forcing anyone assaulting our entrance to get close.
