About the hair:

She used to be on this show called Victorious. Her character in the show had bright red hair. It was her real hair dyed that color. Dying your hair that intensely (she probably bleached it before putting the red on) is damaging. Doing it constantly for several years destroyed her hair (made it thin, frizzy, and frayed). That ultra high and tight ponytail was a good way to hide how damaged the hair was. It's since become her signature look.

If I remember correctly, during the last season of Victorious/entirety of Sam & Cat, she's actually wearing a red wig.

They didn't know to put a wig on her before that?

She probably liked having red hair. Or maybe someone in charge thought a wig looked too fake. It is pretty obvious when someone's wearing a wig versus their real hair. Now, a high end wig will look almost indistinguishable from real hair, but I sincerely doubt they would devote that kind of budget to a middling tween show on Nickelodeon.

Fun fact: look at the hair of any girl (or guy) who frequently dyes their hair wild colors. I can almost guarantee that it will look like shit. Extremely dried out and straw-like. If Ramona Flowers were a real person, her hair would be failing out from the constant dying.

I hated the voice she was doing in Victorious/Sam & Cat with a passion.

It could be that a lot of her fanbase are kids still in school and young adults. We can't really say she trying to appeal to adult men or anything because they're not ones buying tickets to her concerts, or following her on social media.

Wish I could provide some kind of proof. I did read an article recently where she said that she tried wearing wigs early on during Victorious and they looked ridiculous.

That is funny because after googling some pics, her appearance on that show looks ridiculous regardless of the authenticity of the hair...

I know one girl who from redhead to blonde to black hair... I don't even know her natural hair color. She makes all of them work, but I really can't tell what "damaged" hair really looks like. For me it's either you have hair or you have no hair.

Some people do get lucky or take extremely good care of their hair. I know one girl who constantly dyes hers platinum blonde, but she has the silkiest hair I've ever seen.

Damaged hair generally looks frizzy and dry. It might have weird kinks in it (not quite like naturally textured hair).

I'm not sure when it happened. I get told I look like I could still be in high school, but when I see actual high schoolers, they just look like babies to me. Tall children. I don't feel a ton different in most ways from when I was a teenager, but that's one of the few.

Also, it's perfectly legal in my state to bang 16 year olds as a 20-something. That's how a friend avoided going to jail.
