The Dark Tower is so astoundingly awful that when you leave the theater you’ll likely be less mad you wasted your time than flabbergasted that something like this could a) happen and b) be released as something that, theoretically, is going to launch a multi-platform franchise.

Considering there was basically no information about this movie up until like a month or two before it comes out, that should have said all you needed to know.

It's almost as if every adaptation ever attached to Stephan King's name has new utter horse shit.... outside of "Shawshank" and "The Shining" (I liked both book and movie, but I can see why people were erked about the latter) of course.

I was hoping this would be good. I'm gonna go in with an open mind and treat it as a "sequel," but this doesn't give me hope.

Was it? I never saw it, but was scared away after.... Under The Dome.

I'm on a re-read of 11/22/63 right now, so maybe I'll check it out after.

Also, I'm stoked for the new "IT," but that was already done well once, so it should go on my list above... shit, same with "Misery." Well, I guess, the majority of his adaptations are crap....

The original Carrie, Stand By Me, Misery, The Green Mile, and 11/22/63 are great. And I personally enjoyed 1408 despite that being really polarizing.

So are all these King novels in the same universe? Are things like The Shining, The Stand and Shawshank related to Dark Tower?

Also it should have been obvious this will be shit from the trailers where he's like "I don't kill with my gun, I kill with my heart". Lmfao.

more like a multiverse.

The Dark Tower is the nexus of all reality, and much of King's works are referenced in some way in the series.

The Stand is more of a direct relation thanks to Randall Flagg. The characters in The Dark Tower visit the world of The Stand (or at least one very much like it) for a short time.

And that's super disappointing to hear. The trailer looked promising.

That seems a bit racist, or at the very least stupid.

Like all the people who keeps saying that ME: Andromeda failed cause of all teh es gee dubble vus instead of because of the subpar graphics, the million bugs and glitches it launched with, the completely fucking lazy re-thread of the old trilogy in terms of the story, characters and world-building.

This bothered me as well. Why would they screw with an established character in this way? The dark tower is an epic fiction series. The blueprint is all right there, all you have to fucking do is follow it. Changing the characters race changes his identity and presence.

I know Stephen King is liberal minded and sees himself as progressive or whatever the fuck. But it is also strange to me that he would allow them to change this iconic Roland , considering he has spoken about and is IN THE BOOKS that King is Roland. I feel like Mr King really let these Hollywood assholes shit on his dearest creation in fiction.

And the romcom star Matt is playing Walter o Dim? FUCK YOU

As much as I wanted it to be good, this is completely expected. The vibe i got from the trailer was Jonah Hex. Like, it should not be that hard to make a decent movie based off the material.
And Josh Brolin would have been great

The movie at least had a better ending. Buster turns on Gaunt and blows up the store, but Gaunt just calmly climbs out of the rubble. He tells the sheriff that he'll be seeing the sheriff's grandson one day, giving the kid's name and the date and location of that meeting. Then he gets in his car and just drives out of town.

Opposed to the book ending of the sheriff beating him with shadow puppets.

Oh is that how you make movie scripts? Gee, why didn't anyone ever think of that? No, really, adaptations that are 1:1 with the source material are very few, and the ones I know aren't great anyway.

Making a good dark tower movie shouldn't be that difficult. The first movie should focus on the second book, the drawing of the three after opening with the start of book 1 (through the first town, rewrite to have Jake there and die, do the palaver to set up the world, then jump book 2.

Having just Jake and mostly being in New York just guts so much of the journey.

I liked it about as much as I could with the time they had to tell their story in a 1 and a half movie. It had elements of the books all throughout, and looking at it that way, it makes sense that it's a retelling considering how the books end. That's how I looked at it the whole time I watched it, this is just another one of Roland's journey's to the Dark Tower with differences.

I do hope they'll make more though, and make it a full on adventure with Jake, Eddie and Susannah heading to the tower. Drawing of the Three was one of my favorite books and really got me hooked.

I like Idris Elba as Roland except for the not having blue eyes things. Roland's crazy blue and serious bombardiers eyes are mentioned multiple times throughout the books.
